OUR APPROACH

Without the educational and emotional support they need, at-risk students find it impossible to get back on track — and they will simply give up on learning. At Learn4Life, we’ve built a model that interrupts the dropout cycle and gives these kids a path to succeed in high school… and beyond.

Based on the belief that every student is a potential graduate, we transform “at risk” to “ready for success.” It starts with believing in our students, but it doesn’t end there. Every student is assigned to a supervising teacher who identifies and addresses his or her emotional, physical and psychological stumbling blocks to learning.

An emphasis on goal setting helps students focus on graduation, while also preparing them for life beyond. Programs such as Extracurricular Team-Building, Career Training Education, Soft Skills Education and College Preparatory Tracks provide valuable real-world experience and lead to greater confidence. Our vision of success is about more than a diploma — so we hold students accountable to their highest levels of academic achievement.

ELIZABETH

“I didn’t think I would graduate after having my baby. At Learn4Life, my teacher let me bring my daughter to school and motivated me to create a better life for her.”

REMOVING EVERY OBSTACLE

We take the time to get to know each student, and then tailor his or her educational experience for a high rate of success. Each step of the way, we work to remove all obstacles in the way of a student’s high school diploma.

PERSONALIZED LESSONS

Underperformers learn differently and struggle in traditional classrooms¹. Using a computer-based diagnostic test, we determine math and reading skills and then adjust our teaching style for each student.

ONE-ON-ONE ATTENTION

Getting to know each student increases attendance and chances for academic success². If a student has trouble getting to school, we’ll provide bus passes. If motivation is lacking, we’ll help with goal setting.

FLEXIBILITY

Many of our students have children, and many work in jobs that make it difficult to attend school during regular hours. We offer flexible hours and year-round access teachers, computer labs and tutoring.

A SAFE ENVIRONMENT

Almost 160,000 students per day miss school because they fear physical harm³. We provide controlled access, and in some cities, resource centers on both sides of gang lines to keep students safe.

LIFE AFTER GRADUATION

Students achieving a high school diploma puts students on a path out of poverty, crime and joblessness, but it’s not the only requirement for success. In helping them to prepare for a truly productive adult life, we support a college- and career-centered focus on the future. As many as 43% of our students enroll in post-secondary education, and many more go on to pursue technical careers using the skills they’ve gained through our Career Technical Education programs.

CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE)

CTE programs give students a jump start on a promising future right out of high school with the mastery of real-world, technical skills. Our corporate partnerships and workforce readiness programs are the keys to success inside and outside of the classroom for Learn4Life students.

PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE

TOM TORLAKSON, California State Superintendent of Public Instruction, discusses "Linked Learning," an approach for improving high schools by connecting learning in the classroom with real world applications.

Cisco Labs IT Essentials

Through a partnership with Cisco®, students learn the fundamentals of computer hardware and operating systems functionality. IT Essentials offers a hands-on, career-oriented learning experience that helps students prepare for the A+ test — a key credential for any IT professional.

Makerspace

Makerspace offers the latest technologies for students to design, build and create. This workshop provides hands-on experience in mechanics, woodwork and metalwork. Problem solving and functional trial and error inspire students and prepare them for skilled-trade jobs.

Professional Skills

In this course, we teach the essentials of workplace communication and etiquette, basic office machinery and how to apply for a job, including resumé creation. Students graduate with the confidence to successfully complete a job interview.
